About you
We are looking for a minimum NFQ (National Framework Qualification)/ Level 3 NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC. Or, equivalent in a mechanical engineering discipline which should also include electrical elements. Ideally having a completed a time-served apprenticeship in a marine or vehicle-based engineering position. The ability to work as part of a team and your own initiative will be key for a first fix approach in order to return RNLI search and rescue assets back on service as soon as possible. Part of your duties as a Systems Technician will include trials of existing and repaired equipment so you will need to demonstrate excellent fault finding and attention to detail in Electronic and Electrical repairs and maintenance.
Development and training will be provided to ensure your skills and knowledge can be utilised fully. We have a broad and interesting range of equipment needing to be supported and we welcome enquiries from suitably qualified Technicians working within the following sectors:
- Commercial / Leisure Marine maintenance/ Service / Repair
- Aircraft industry / Avionics Maintenance / Service / Repair
- Auto electrics / EV Maintenance / Service / Repairs
- Military / Navy Communications maintenance / Service / Repair
Your role
You will become part of a professional team working with Lifeboat Station Mechanics, Lifeguards, Contractors and other technical staff to carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and defect repair on Electronic and Electrical / Mechanical equipment across the Irish Region. You should have a desire to stay current in the use of existing technology and a willingness to learn and be involved in the roll out and assessment of new equipment which is constantly changing within the RNLI’s search and rescue assets.

This post requires a valid driving licence. Driving licence B+E for towing and a forklift licence are beneficial but not essential. If required training will be provided for this. You will be mainly supporting stations from Clogherhead around to Baltimore, including LoughDerg but may have to work at other locations within Ireland.

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the Institution's medical and eyesight standards.
