We are looking for a Senior International Advocacy Manager to cover 10 months maternity leave within our International Team. This role helps the RNLI ensure that political commitment for drowning prevention generates tangible action to save lives.

Globally, drowning is a ‘silent epidemic’, responsible for over 300,000 lost lives each year. In many countries drowning is a leading cause of child mortality, yet drowning prevention often goes unrecognised and is under-resourced; lacking global champions and crowded out of the political space. We can change that … with your help.

As a Senior International Advocacy Manager, you will be tasked with focus on the following areas:

• Play a leading role in the implementation of the RNLI’s Global Influence Strategy, with the aim of convening and convincing development stakeholders of the imperative and opportunity to act on drowning.
• Be responsible for managing strategic partnerships with priority stakeholders, including relevant UN agencies, with a particular focus on the role of education in drowning prevention.
• Support the development of advocacy and influencing capacity and capability across the RNLI and partner organisations.
• Gather, interpret, and share political intelligence to inform effective RNLI international advocacy and influencing.
• Help shape the RNLI’s international evidence priorities and products, supporting plans for the uptake and use of evidence and research for drowning prevention by decision makers.
• Ensure high quality delivery of events, activities and communications e.g. roundtables, side events, policy recommendations, position papers, briefings and consultations.

About you

You’ll be someone who can buy-into and help achieve an ambitious vision to end drowning globally. You may have specific experience in advocacy related to a specific sector including, education, health or fishing safety and want to find ways to connect this with the issue of drowning prevention.

To be considered as a Senior International Advocacy Manager you will need to demonstrate experience in:

• Design, delivery and evaluation of high impact advocacy and influencing activity.
• Building strong collaborative networks and partnerships, externally and internally.
• Supporting colleagues and partners to develop influencing capacity and capability
• Being a great communicator, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and able to tailor communication style to influence different stakeholders.
• Effective management of partnerships and projects, developing agreements and workplans, identifying budget and resource requirements, and monitoring progress. 

You must be willing and able to travel internationally for this role. You’ll be working closely with partners in at least one of the countries connected to our work. Some countries may require specific vaccines and visas before entry and therefore it is a requirement of the role to have these when required. In this role we would expect between 6 and 8 weeks of international travel per year.
