Your role
As a Plant and Machinery Trainer , under the direction of the coastal training lead, you will be involved in a wide range of activities and assessments on various launch and recovery equipment including SAR units, mechanical/hydraulic elements and low voltage electrical systems, from helping new crew members to understand their role and responsibilities at a station, through to helping them prepare for operational pass outs. Your role will also involve ensuring crew are fully prepared for one of our many residential courses at the RNLI College. Combined with this, you will also be involved in a programme of formal assessments at lifeboat stations to confirm training standards are being achieved and maintained.
Can act as competence-based training, assessment and verification SME in line with level 1 and 2 assurance requirements
- Prioritise, schedule, lead, deliver and recording of Training & Assessments to lifesaving locations against the competence framework standards
- Oversight and lead in identification, coaching, mentoring and assurance of local Trainer Assessor individuals and functions
- Quality Assure local Trainer Assessors through internal verification against the competence framework standards and in line with level 2 assurance requirements
- Ensure Lifesaving personnel adhere to organisational requirements, standards and safe systems of work including competence, procedural, medical and behavioural
- Identify and plan local competency needs against the competency framework
- In conjunction with AOM and CTL input to and act on succession planning within existing lifesaving locations personnel to ensure an appropriate Scheme of Complement and lifesaving capability
- Assure fitness standards of operational lifesavers through associated testing and recording
- Support projects, continuous improvement and development work as SME locally and organisationally including the validation and development of current competency standards, frameworks and resources
- Develop and deliver a range of targeted or scheduled training and assessment related packages including external qualifications/courses and internal functions such as equipment modifications and roll outs
This post will predominantly service RNLI locations within the North & East Region and the successful candidate will be expected to live within this geographical area. The successful candidate will be required to spend nights away from home and on occasion the role may require more extensive travel elsewhere within the RNLI. Flexibility over working patterns is essential - our volunteer crews are generally available after normal working hours and on occasions only at weekends.
About you
To be considered as the Plant and Machinery Trainer .
The prerequisites for this position are a minimum of two years proven experience as a practical Assessor and/or Trainer in the field of Plant and diesel maintenance, preferably with maritime experience. The role requires a lot of travelling so you will require a full clean drivers licence including the towing endorsement, this role will also give you the opportunity to develop within the role.
- Training/Instructional experience.
- Assessment/Verification experience desirable.
- Experience of competence-based training systems.
Computer literacy is essential, as is the ability to work well with volunteers and staff in an inclusive and diverse manner.
