About us

We are the RNLI: the charity that saves lives at sea. Every day of every year, people of all backgrounds get into danger in the water. It’s a problem that we’re here to tackle. We are known as a lifeboat service famous for heroic acts of courage but we’re more than a rescue organisation. We influence, supervise and educate people too. Increasingly, we are helping people to stay safe on the water, and we’re working with overseas partners as well - to reduce drowning internationally.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Management Accountant to join our Finance Governance team on a permanent basis.

Your role

An opportunity has arisen for a Management Accountant to join the Financial Governance team on a permanent basis, providing constructive, commercial and cost-effective financial support and expertise to help the RNLI maximise its income and minimise its expenditure.

Reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager, this Management Accountant role will work closely with both Management and Financial Reporting Accountants as well as the wider Finance team to drive the accuracy of in-year accounting entries through high-quality review of Income & Expenditure and Balance Sheet accounts. This role will provide support in delivering the provision of accurate and timely management accounts on a monthly basis.

This Management Accountant role will work closely with the Financial Planning & Analysis Team and wider finance team to determine issues and potential improvements to improve financial data and reporting processes to improve accuracy, efficiency of data and processes and working practices. This may involve creating new reports or developing existing reports as required.

You will act as an subject matter expert and point of contact on transactions and activities covered in your role, providing timely support whenever required.

About you

You should hold a recognised accountancy qualification, be working towards a qualification or be qualified by significant experience. The successful candidate will be an organised team-player with good attention to detail and the ability to consistently provide a high standard of work within deadlines. You will have the flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team and be confident and comfortable working in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

Safeguarding

The RNLI is committed to safeguarding; protecting a person’s health, wellbeing, and human rights, enabling them to live free from harm, abuse, and neglect. We expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment and have a zero-tolerance approach. The suitability of all prospective employees and volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment. This will include relevant criminal record checks being carried out dependent on the eligibility of the role. (England & Wales; DBS check, Scotland; Disclosure Scotland PVG, Northern Ireland; Access NI, Republic of Ireland; Garda Vetting; International, International Child Protection Certificate process).

Diversity at the RNLI

Our staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for 200 years. We respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within our teams, and consider it essential to help us deliver a world-class lifesaving service. We are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, we also look for applicants who share our commitment to living our RNLI values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping us work towards Our Vision: To save Every One.
