About us

The RNLI provides a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service, lifeguards, fundraising, and drowning prevention. Our frontline lifesavers and fundraisers need a dedicated, professional and talented team behind them, and that is where you come in.

We’re looking for a curious and creative Senior Data Scientist to join our data and analytics team. The data science function supports the RNLI through leveraging advanced analytical skills such as AI and machine learning to extract insights from complex data sets that will inform decision making.

Your role

As a Senior Data Scientist you will be tasked with focus on the following areas:

  • Using advanced statistics, AI and machine learning to draw patterns and correlations from large, complex datasets and solve business problems.
  • Interpreting the outputs of this work to support senior leaders in making evidence-based decisions.
  • Designing, developing and deploying machine learning models and AI for various applications throughout the RNLI
  • Identifying and shaping the use of new and novel data sources and structuring them in a way to feed analysis products and workflows
  • Helping to build and follow standard ways of working, providing mentorship to data roles
  • Contributing to the construction of the RNLI data ecosystem, ensuring the data and tools (github, Azure, DataBricks and others) that are available are appropriate for the effective application of data science techniques.

 About you

You’ll be an experienced data scientist or senior data scientist who is a strong advocate for the use of AI/ML to drive improvement and enjoys identifying opportunities to apply data science techniques. To be considered as the Senior Data Scientist you will need:

  • A Data Science or related qualification, preferable at degree level or above
  • Previous experience in delivering data science projects into operational environments.
  • Extensive experience of developing data science applications, preferably utilising Python based tools
